A Helpful Movie

On my previous post, I mentioned about why should we watch films while learning English and what are the benefits of watching films. Now, I am going to suggest a movie that I liked. I watched it well in advance but I want to recommend this film to you because I think this film can contribute to your English in a lot of ways. The film is 'Cast Away'. In sum, it narrates a man who is stuck in a desolate island after a horrible plane crush that caused because of the storm. The leading role in the film is Tom Hanks whose voice is generally clear and understandable for the beginners. He generally speaks soft and slowly. Moreover, in the film most of the dialogue is monolouge. In monologue, one person speaks. Beside these, there are not any complicated relationships between the characters that makes the movie easier to understand and I think this film is going to teach you so many words.

Today, I am going to give some tips about benefits of watching films while learning English. And I want to mention about what should we consider while choosing films to learn English? Let's start then.

First, I want to indicate that watching films is more attractive for everyone of you than studying with books and textbooks. Watching films can be as much useful as textbooks. Here is why watching films will enhance your fluency:

1- Books are perfect source for vocabularies and reading ;however, when you watch films you can have the chance to hear the real conversations. I mean you can listen the real native speakers in the films because they use the language in a natural way. Sometimes, it is hard for us to understand how a word is pronounced. To me, hearing native speakers in the films can help us on our pronunciation.

2- When we learn some vocabularies, generally it is hard for us to keep them in our minds for a long time. But in the films, we can hear this words in the context and in a natural way so, it is helpful for us to learn vocabularies as well.

3- By watching films, we can have the chance to hear both the American and British accents.

There are so many sites on the web that offer this to us;however, we should consider how reliable they are.Because getting something with just one listening is really significant for us and it determines so many thing about our success in learning English. BBC is one of the sites on the web that provide information substantially for us  while learning English. In BBC, you can find a listening part of the the news. You can improve your listening with the help of them. There are so many news videos in 'News Report'. First you listen the news and below the listening video there are key words about the news that help you to understand the listening. So, are you ready to enhance your listening skill?

The next method about learning English is using CAMBLY!


Cambly is an application by which you can connect to the instructiors whose mother tongues are English and by this way you can communicate with them to improve your English or ask the questions that are obsessed by you. Application is not free but you can use it without paying anything just for 10 minutes for trying the application.With the aid of this application you can boost your speaking in a short time. What are the key aspects of learning English? There are so many ways; however, most of these ways are boring. I came up with the idea in which we learn English while relaxing and having fun. I am mentioning about learning English while watching real-world videos including listening musics. If you have not tried this way yet, now it is the right time to start it. There are so many scientific researches proving the idea that listening music and watching videos in target language boost our vocabulary memory. Beside this, daily conversations take place in the musics and you become familiar with the intonation of English while listening. By this way, you let the vocabularies in music be imprinted on our minds. Now, I am going to mention about an application that enables us to apply what I have just said.

Today, I just wanted to inform you about the HOT POTATOES! What is Hot potatoes and why should we use it?

It enables us to learn easily while having fun. By the help of this program, you can create various self tests. In this program , you can find multiple choice quizes, short answer quizes, crosswords, matchings and cloze texts. Before you create Hot potatoes, you may want to think what you want to accomplish with this program. What do you want your students to learn? If you want to teach some vocabularies you can use JQuiz or JCloze. If you want text or reading passage comprehension you can use JMatch. To create these, first you should download it to your computer, then you can start your self quizes whenever you want. I have not tried to create one of them yet, however, I had the chance to observe one of my friends creating his own questions. As I observed, it has no difficulties in the phase of creating.
